What really matters in your life? What really counts?

Do we live our lives for happiness, or for meaning? Our answer makes a tangible difference. Happiness is an ephemeral state; it comes and goes. A sense of inner meaning allows us to ride the waves of adversity because we are firmly anchored in a deeper sense of self.

What does the thread of your life look like? What is its texture, its color, its form?

Depth psychotherapy seeks to uncover the hidden thread of meaning that weaves through all our experiences, both pleasurable and painful. Within each of us is a sense of core integrity, rich with resonance and depth. Our work together is about developing this sense. Essentially, this work is about your connection to your Self — your soul. Discovering the safety of a grounded core within, you gain a foundation from which you can begin to explore and accept all aspects of your self, the dark and the light.

What’s asking to be opened in your life? What doors need to be knocked upon?

The depth quest yields a sense of soul, an unshakable sense of self that places us in new relation to life. This internal sense of meaning can’t be faked — it must be forged though experience, unearthed from our own deepest self. It can’t be packaged or marketed, because it’s utterly unique for each individual.

Perhaps that is why we don’t hear much about it in this society. People with meaningful lives aren’t easily manipulated. They don’t feel compelled to consume to fill an empty void, because there’s a solid and grounded core self, a sense of knowing who you are and what you want in life. From this core identity, feelings arise and flow freely; just as thoughts arise and dissolve. The sense of presence stays.

In depth psychotherapy, we seek to grasp hold of the thread of meaning leading to the heart of the labyrinth — the thread connecting us to our inner self. Following this thread through the knots and tangles of conflict, we grow into what we are meant to become. This is the inner work of transformation: moving from imitating the person we think we are to becoming the person we really are. In the end, we can’t be anyone else.
